Life in Luton

With just about one million residents, the busy metropolitan city of Luton is situated 30 miles north of London. Luton is the major city and industrial centre of the county of Bedfordshire.

The city has lovely the Arndale Centre and the George Street area as its main shopping centre. As a result of these shopping developments a lot of Luton's old buildings were lost, hence it has continued to become a much more modern city.

Entertainment facilities include The Library Theatre, The Galaxy Centre, Cinema, Bowling Alley, the Artezium as well as a new Arts and Media Centre.

Places of interest include Luton Museum & Art Gallery, Stockwood Country Park and Woodside Farm & Wildlife Park. Woodside has play areas for children, small animals and many rare breeds. The exciting Woburn Safari Park is less than 45 minutes away.

There is also the Stockwood Craft Museum and Gardens, which shows what life was like in pre-industrial Bedfordshire and has displays of Bedfordshire rural life, crafts and trades, regularly enhanced by trade demonstrations. The Mossman collection of horse-drawn vehicles is the largest collection of its kind on public display in Great Britain, and tells the story of horse-drawn transport before the invention of the motorcar.

Luton has its own International Airport that services many European destinations. Meanwhile, it is less than an hour from both Heathrow International Airport and Stanstead Airport which is near Cambridge and its famous university.

Student Body

The college is very multi-cultural with students from many different nations including Pakistan, the UK, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Trinidad and many more. In collaboration with SLCC London, there is a very active Students Union and Alumni Association.

Local Church Commitment

While Luton and the surrounding areas has a diverse multi-faith religious culture, which reflects the many ethnic groups in the United Kingdom, Christianity still holds a strong place. This is reflected by the fact that there is an ever increasing number of both indigenous and ethnic church plants throughout the cosmopolitan area.

As an interdenominational Christian College, we do not favour any particular church. All students are however strongly encouraged to find a good Bible-believing local church to attend regularly. If you do not know any church in London, you can ask the college to recommend one or simply click on Jubilee International Church.
